About the project

The Specialist Antimicrobial  Chemotherapy Unit (SACU) contributes to the UK and worldwide surveillance schemes: BSAC respiratory study run by Public Health England, London.

What does your project involve?

The project studies the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance. It documents the prevalence of antibiotic resistance and gives resistance rates for reach species/ antibiotic (bug/drug) combination tested.

Why are you working there?

Isolated (bacteria) are collected by a network of laboratories in these countries of the UK and Ireland (Eire), Great Britain and British Isles.

Key outcomes

As the study continues, BSAC can look for trends in time for resistance levels.
